Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried contacting their Representative in the House to try to garner their support? It seems kind of silly for us to be representing congressional districts that already have representatives without trying to engage those representatives.
How would we go about this?

You can go to www.house.gov/representatives/ to find your representative. Ditto on www.senate.gov if you want to contact one of the state's Senators. I'll send out an email to my rep, but to be honest I think he's a douche of the highest order. Its not just the "blame Obama for everything" schtick that he uses like many people in his party, but his voting record too. He's definitely a "good ol' boy" representing a district filled with "good ol' boys." *Sigh*

It's not a bad idea.
If we each send letters to our respective representatives (I'd say at both the state and federal levels), either we'll get negative responses, be ignored, or receive some sort of support.
A 33% chance isn't all that terrible.

Its worth a shot. Here is what I sent to my Representative. Feel free to use this template in your emails: Congressman McHenry, My name is Mike Huttman. I am the 10th District of North Carolina's delegate for the 99% Declaration. I wanted to let you know about this event that is starting next week in Philadelphia, and to invite your feedback as my US Representative. The 99% Declaration, born from a working group within Occupy Wall Street, is a new Continental Congress. This Congress, wittingly dubbed "Continental Congress 2.0," will contain representatives from nearly every US state and territory to meet in Philidelphia on July 4 to draft a set of grievances for submission to the President, Supreme Court, and Congress. You can learn more about the 99% Declaration at www.the99declaration.org. The declaration text, including proposed grievances can be found at www.the99declaration.org/full_text. As a delegate to this event, I would love to elaborate on details about the 99% Declaration and the planned Continental Congress that will take place in Philadelphia next week. You can reach me by phone @ [phone #] or via email ( )

Heh, of course I know that we can get their emails. What I'm more interested in is how we get their attention.
What was the subject line of your email?

I'd wait until we actually have something that they might want to get behind.

Heh, of course I know that we can get their emails. What I'm more interested in is how we get their attention. That's the $1,000,000 question Occupy has done well with mic checks, otherwise IDK how you can reach them in person. They tend to be cordoned off unless they are at a campaign stop... I put something like "Greetings from your 99% Declaration Delegate" in the subject line.

I don't see how contacting my reps would produce any positive input for me...I have nothing but corporate shills as reps from my district TX-12...Texas politicians are just about as bad as they get.

I know how you feel, kj. McHenry (my rep) is NOT someone that I wanted to represent me. In fact, I made sure to take a Republican ballot in this year's primary to vote against the guy (among other reasons.)

I told the local city council and put announcements in the papers that would run them.
