Canada's Radio Act has a stern "no lying in media" clause, so no news media can post "any false or misleading news." It would definitely put an end the spiral of spinned media that is trash at best, even before pundits attempt to out shame each other.

Sounds good but maybe you can post something a little stronger that includes legislative language, like what you said about false or misleading language? No lying in media just sounds a little whiny to me. MOM! The media is lying to me again!

I'd be interested to read a summary of that legislation. I posted a somewhat tongue in cheek, somewhat serious idea on aGREATER.US called News it or Lose it Act, making News a legal term, violate the terms and you can't use it. You could be CBS Report, or Fox Reports, but not CBS News or Fox News. You can read it here... www.agreater.us/billpage.php?id=159

I'm working on some language for these grievances, and will post when ready! Thanks for the input. Jon, thanks for the share. I like the idea of legally defining "news". I have less of a problem if Fox News dropped the term news, and fully told their audience that what they are offering is entertainment and/or opinion, which is their right to do, but they shouldn't be able to call it news, or in a legal sense, facts. That's the rub I find great issue with.

Kelly, sounds like you should support the Concerned Citizens Coalition Campaign Supporting the Segregation of Facts, Opinions, and Made-Up Nonsense!

I gotta say, I don't want the government deciding what's a lie and what's the truth. I prefer the approaches of Justice Louis Brandies and advertising guru Jerry della Femina.

Nothing kills a bad product faster than good advertising - della Femina

I was thinking of something similar: Let the MSM have their "opinion" News shows, but through an FTC regulation require all News shows that contain any bias or any propaganda to display a prominent warning:
"NOTICE: This show contains items that are not factually accurate. The statements expressed in this program are opinions only, and should not be considered as fact. Always double check any information that you receive through television programming before accepting it as the truth."
We have warning labels on cigarette cartons to protect the public from the tobacco industry propaganda, so why not protect them against this type of propaganda as well?
