It is important to end the use of Gerrymandering in America. But even more important to end the mispronunciation of the poor man's name.
Elbridge Gerry is the MA chap that the whole business derives from. And though everyone and their mom outside the Political Science community says his name as "Jerry", the G is technically a hard G like in "Guy". So it should be something closer to "Garymandering".
Though to really confuse folks, the "erry" part is supposed to be closer to "eerie" like "Eerie Indiana". So adding the hard G to that, would make it most correct to say "Gear-ee-mandering".
My two cents. But it seems ironic that folks can't find consensus on an issue that they all seem to mispronounce. Keep fighting the good fight, no matter how you say it!
