For Immediate Release June 20, 2012
Continental Congress 2.0 will Convene on 7/2/12 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
“What we have in common is revulsion at how money has perverted
21st Century American Democracy”
Philadelphia, PA. A truly historic Continental Congress 2.0, similar to the originals in 1776, will take place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from July 2 to 4, 2012 at the Philadelphia Convention Center. Delegates from a majority of Congressional Districts and US Territories will gather to discuss, debate, and finally vote on a 'petition of grievances' that is legally based on the First Amendment to the Constitution. This, one of its kind, deliberative process has been created by volunteers who have donated thousands of hours and a substantial amount of their own money for a cause they ardently believe in. The cause, widely recognized by Progressives, Independents, and Conservatives alike, is to create a much better nation that works for the 100%, instead of either the 99% or 1%.
The final representation of the gathered citizens' will or 'Petition of Grievances' will be read in its entirety on the steps of Independence Hall near the original Liberty Bell on the fourth of July. Soon thereafter, all 535 members of Congress, every candidate for President, and all Supreme Court Justices will receive a copy of the original listing of grievances. The purpose of this listing is to request that all of our federal Congressional Representatives and candidates for our highest elected office, pledge to enact appropriate laws to redress the listed grievances. If no pledges from members of Congress are forthcoming within a reasonable period of time, there is a strong possibility of a case being filed in Federal Court.
Please refer to our website, www.the99declaration.org to view the listed grievances and the hundreds of delegates personal short biographies and reasons for their commitment to participating in this historic effort to move our nation in a more positive direction for the 21st Century. Their stories are poignant and a reflection of ordinary citizens caring enough and dedicated to both participatory and our existing form of representative government.
