Aside from four years practicing law (1991-95), I have worked in education since I was 21. My positions have been: graduate assistant, lecturer and assistant professor in political science (comparative politics, international relations, American government, and political geography), director of a private ESL program (included recruiting international students for a private 4-year college), academic director of a new K-10 school for expatriates in Saudi Arabia, ESL writing and test prep instructor, director of academic support (included placement testing, disabilities services, tutoring and assisting with accreditation) at a small, for-profit college, and my present position - retention specialist. I studied/completed classes at Georgetown University, Nankai University in Tianjin, PRC, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong while in graduate school at Johns Hopkins. My current work in attrition risk analysis, developmental education, program assessment, and promotion of best practices for student success and retention, is challenging and rewarding.
Since November 2011, I have become increasingly involved with the Occupy movement as a writer, analyst, and strategist. I came in through Inter-Occupy after knocking on the door of Occupy Albany and Occupy Wall Street and not getting an answer. I am working on ways to awaken the American people to the change that is needed in our country.
In addition to the above, I write plays. My three-act comedy, "Mother Explains," had a reading by the Classic Theater Guild at Proctor's in Schenectady in November 2008. The first 17 pages of another play ("The First Spring Day") were presented as part of the 2009 festival under the title "Deja Vu on the Obituary Page." I am currently completing two plays, one a jukebox musical called "QC" and "Subculture," a comedy, as well as polishing the first play I completed, "Fathers Day." My contacts to find theater groups willing to stage productions of these works are, unfortunately, limited.
